I play the bass for Miles To Go. I'm a Colorado girl through and through. I was born and raised in Littleton, Colorado. I love the mountains and everything that has to do with them. Here's my story.
It was nearing the end of 5th grade. Middle School was on the horizon. Every 6th grader at Euclid Middle School was required to be enrolled in a music class. I went to an informational meeting at Euclid to learn more about all my options for music classes. Most of the kids joined the choir that seemed to be the easiest. I wanted to be different. I narrowed my choices down to either flute or double bass. I decided there were still too many flautists in the world, so I went with the bass. Plus, I knew I would be really unique and cool if I played the bass (and that's every 6th graders goal right?) I played in Carla McWilliams orchestra class for three years. I learned two important life lessons from her "PLAY OUT!!" and "If you're going to be wrong, be wrong with confidence". I owe my passion for music in part to her. She is such a great teacher and friend. I've played the bass ever since.
My brother Christian introduced me to the world of Bluegrass music when I moved out to Provo, Utah and joined his Bluegrass band, The Banana Chair Band. Mutual friends of Cassie's and mine introduced us and Cassie invited me to come play with Miles To Go. My first real experience with Miles To Go was when we went on tour to Price, Utah where we were "The biggest thing to come to Price since the Dinosaurs". We played for a NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) conference AND the bar at the Holiday Inn (shhh, don't tell, I'm underage!!!) I thought the band was pretty fun, so I stuck around. Plus I think they really need me. Bassists are hard to come by.
