Tamilisa Wood

My name is Tamilisa Wood and I play the mandolin and fiddle and sing (and I try to play the harmonica and the pennywhistle) in the group Miles To Go and I've always wished to play the guitar, banjo, accordion... oh and I used to dabble at the bass when I was growing up in Sandy Utah where I played with my family's band at the State Fair and other such places but they had to give me a chair to stand on so that I could reach the fingerboard because it was so high, but when I grew up and took the BYU Folk Ensemble classes I didn't have to stand on a chair to play the bass and then I played the fiddle too and for that I didn't need a chair but so many other people were better than me (because everyone in Utah either plays the piano or violin or fiddle) so I switched to the mandolin for a lot of songs and I really liked it and stuck with it even though bowing and picking are very different from each other and it was hard to adjust to something different but that is like a lot of things in life, in fact, I was a media arts major and that is kind of different because I like to make films and act in them but I like other things too like crafts and cooking pasta because I went to Italy as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and learned Italian too, and I wish I could speak other languages and learn about other cultures and how they cook and stuff but first I need to earn money so that If I wanted to travel I could and that's why I work for an exhibit project on BYU campus making short documentary films that will tell stories about individuals who have gained knowledge and then gone out and done something with it for the good, and about those who have some kind of special story related to education and learning, which is pretty cool in my opinion because I love to learn about new things and not forget about the ones I've already learned but they always seem to slip my mind if I don't write them down in a journal or even write a song about them to remember times like these when I've been playing in a bluegrass band, with great friends, called Miles to Go.
